In-Service Training on the Different Areas of Educational Planning

IIEP offers in-service training for education planners, managers, and professionals wanting to broaden their knowledge and enhance their skills.

By way of a flexible framework that makes allowances for participants’ other commitments , IIEP distance courses offer intensive training of the highest calibre, that meet professional requirements and are lead by experts in educational planning.

Our distance courses last two months and cover the different fields related to educational planning and management.

Questions & Answers

• Who is our target population?

  Our courses are intended for decision-makers and professionals from education ministries, universities, and other public bodies responsible for education. Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  Professional Experience: candidates must have had at least three years experience in a responsible position (at central or regional level) in educational planning and/or management or else in the area of training/research in the same field.
  Training : Candidates must have successfully completed undergraduate studies (bachelor’s or equivalent degree).
  Language skills: French or English depending on the course. Candidates must be able to read, write and understand the course language proficiently.

  Please note that in accordance with course features certain particular conditions may apply. Participation by female executives is strongly encouraged.

• What are the enrolment procedures?

  IIEP sends out a letter of invitation to ministries of education and other interested institutions. The selected institutions determine a group of participants who will work together, both individually and as a unit.   National teams take precedence for enrolment in the courses. However, individual applications from education professionals will also be accepted up to 10% of enrolments. • In which language are the courses given?

• How are our courses organised?

  Our courses are organised in line with three working modes:

  Individual, autonomous study of the teaching materials and personal reflection on questions and exercises;
  Teamwork : group working sessions (face-to-face or virtual) are organised to examine participants' individual replies and develop a joint response in the form of a group report;
  Interaction with IIEP teaching staff and participants from other institutions on the basis of an exchange and sharing of experiences.

  One member form each team (4 to 7 people) is appointed ‘group co-ordinator'. That person must organise the group work and communication the IIEP supervisors.

• Who are the instructors?

  The distance courses are co-ordinated by IIEP programme specialists involved in operational activities and research work. They have written several publications and made significant contributions to education-sector reforms and the development of education plans in various countries throughout the world.
  Experts from particular fields of study are also invited to take part in the different courses. Such specialists provide additional insights and guide participants right throughout their training.

• What are the training materials used?

  The training materials used are the result of IIEP research. Their purpose is to spur reflection and inform participants about new trends in the field of educational planning. They comprise conceptual parts and theoretical content, as well as exercises and examples drawn from different international practices in educational planning.

  The material is available in electronic format on a virtual platform (“virtual classroom”) of the course. In addition, a hard-copy version is mailed to participants. Media such as videos and interactive slides are also made available to participants so as to supplement and broaden the content presented in the training materials.

• Which technology is used?

  IIEP courses  use the ‘Moodle' e-learning environment. At the start of the course, each participant receives a user name and password giving access to the relevant platform (or “virtual classroom”) where messages are posted and tasks assigned, and the training material, discussion forums, self-evaluations, and corrections by instructors, etc. are located.

• How heavy is the workload for each course?

  Most of our distance courses last two months. Participants are asked to spend 6 to 8 hours per week preparing exercises and on other activities. Before courses begin, two to three weeks are required for the purpose of testing communications.

• How are participants evaluated?

  Throughout their training, participants are asked to take part in e-forum discussions, complete several quizzes, prepare and submit individual and/or group reports to the IIEP course instructors. All these activities will be taken into account in the evaluation by the instructors.

• Which certificates are awarded?

  All course participants receive a certificate of participation upon successful completion of the course. Participants who successfully complete the optional individual assessment will receive an IIEP course certificate.

• What does it cost?

  Admission fees for the distance courses are US$500 per participant. There are no fees for the training programme on Education Sector Planning (11 months) and the e-forums.
