Description

IIEP provided technical support for the conception of the fifth national Education Sector Development Plan (ESDP V). Finalized in September 2015, it serves until 2020 as the core strategic document for federal education development. This plan defines a set of overall goals, strategies and targets for the education sector activities. It was the result of an extensive consultation process between IIEP and the federal Ministry of Education, UNICEF-Ethiopia, the Regional Education Bureaus, federal and regional technical and vocational education and training (TVET) agencies, the education strategy centre, universities, Development Partners, national and international non-governmental organisations and other civic society bodies.

In 2016, a results framework was developed for ESDP V in order to keep measurable targets in sight, help monitor progresses towards those targets and assist with making necessary adjustments and changes to the management of the programme’s implementation. It is a key tool for the education sector in Ethiopia, since it has enabled Government and Development Partners to discuss and review strategic development objectives and targets. To date, the MoE, with the technical support of IIEP and UNICEF-Ethiopia, has implemented the results framework at a federal level and in two specific regions: Benishangul-Gumz and SNNPR.
