The course will be held in English and French, depending on the number of participants. Please note that the fee for each course offered in the SCP will be communicated later. Admitted candidates are allowed to attend the programme only if the required amount has been transferred to IIEP by 1st September 2021.

Course objectives

To offer an advanced level of specialization in projection and simulation models techniques in order to support the costing of education plans and to support strategy formulation processes. 

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the various concepts and projection techniques commonly used when developing a simulation model;
  • Apply techniques and methods to develop simulation models using baseline data, projection framework;
  • Understand the link (using the model) between the resources and expected results 
  • Test the (logistical and financial) consequences of various education policies in a given context

Structure

  1. Introduction to simulation models key concepts and techniques, and their use in educational planning (1 day) : This component spells out concepts of projections and simulations (and underlying principles) and simulation model’s usefulness for educational planning and management and policy dialogue

  2. Building a simulation model (8 days). The component presents how: 
    - To organize the essential steps of projections;
    - To build the model itself from an empty excel sheet, by defining the calculation formulas, in relation to baseline data and projection framework, in order to project the enrolments and the related human, material and financial needs

  3. Presentation of the various types of simulation models (1 day): The component presents what are the similarities/differences among the main simulation models and their strengths/weaknesses. Participant will have the opportunity to use some of them 

Pre-requisite

Good knowledge of Excel
