GPE developing country partners gather at IIEP

09 June 2016

The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) developing country partners (DCP) gathered at IIEP yesterday for a welcome cocktail during the pre-board constituency meeting taking place from 8 to 10 June at the World Bank in Paris, France.

Such constituency meetings, which are open to the 65 DCPs that are grouped into six constituencies on the GPE Board, are designed to bolster partner countries’ role in the governance of the partnership and encourage peer-to-peer learning and the exchange of best practices, according to GPE.

For many present last night, it was not their first time passing through the doors of IIEP. More than half of the participants had previously attended IIEP training or participated in IIEP activities, including 15 alumni of the flagship Advanced Training Programme in educational planning and management.

“For 51.4% of you welcome back to IIEP, and thanks for making us what we are today,” said IIEP Deputy Director Paul Coustère in his welcome speech. “And for the remaining 48.6%, please try the IIEP experience.”

Something the entire audience could share, Coustère continued, is the shared commitment to GPE.

“We want to help foster the Partnership’s future accomplishments in the face of new challenges, from implementing its new funding model and strategy to firmly establishing itself as an enabler of the SDGs and the Education 2030 agenda,” said Coustère.

The DCP constituency meeting for all developing country partners is taking place ahead of the GPE Board of Directors’ meeting from 13 to 15 June in Oslo, Norway.
