IIEP’s Director Suzanne Grant Lewis met with Jorge Faurie, Argentina’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, on 14 November 2017, to renew the Institute’s collaboration with the Argentine government. The signing ceremony took place at the Embassy of Argentina in Paris, France.

The Government of Argentina plays an important role in supporting IIEP’s activities in educational planning and management. This includes its support for the Institute’s office based in Buenos Aires, which was established in 1998, to serve the UNESCO Member States in the Latin American region. This office partners with the region’s ministries of education on a range of activities that include training, education trend monitoring, technical assistance projects, research, and evaluations.

Most recently, Argentina was the host country for IIEP Buenos Aires’ Regional Forum of Educational Policy, from October 11-13, under the title ‘Latin America facing the challenges of the Education 2030 Agenda: Planning policies towards an equitable and inclusive education.’

This forum provided a space for dialogue with a combination of onsite and virtual components tailored to the Latin American context. Official representatives of 18 of the region’s 19 countries attended the event, as well as delegates from three NGOs, and eight international organizations. Representatives from five of UNESCO’s field offices were also in attendance. The forum aimed to contribute to the development of the region’s capacities with an eye towards the accomplishment of the Education 2030 agenda.

IIEP looks forward to future collaborations with the Argentine government in the joint quest to improve educational quality and access.
