MOOC - Measuring gender equality (in English)

5 November 2018 to 30 November 2018
Application deadline:
26 October 2018
Training location:
Worldwide - E-learning

As clearly demonstrated within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), gender equality in education is about more than achieving the right to education. UNESCO defines gender equality to imply that boys and girls would experience the same advantages and disadvantages in: (i) going to school; (ii) enjoying teaching methods, curricula and academic orientation; and (iii) producing equal learning achievements and subsequent life opportunities. How can we then measure gender-sensitive learning environments, teacher training and curricula? What is the linkage between the gender equality in the academic achievements and the life opportunities after school?

The main objective of this course is to reinforce participants’ skills in measuring gender equality in education, as required in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:
  • Review concept, definition, and terminology related to gender equality in education;
  • Identify multiple sources of data in their country for the analysis of gender equality;
  • Exercise analytical skills necessary to interpret quantitative and qualitative data on gender equality in education.
