Professor Mark Bray, Director of the Institute from 2006 to 2010, has been named the holder of the new UNESCO Chair in Comparative Education awarded to the University of Hong Kong (HKU).

A launch ceremony was held on 18 May 2012, presided by Mr Qian Tang, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Education, in conjunction with officers of the University of Hong Kong. Also attending were Mr David Atchoarena, Director of the Division for Teacher Development and Higher Education at UNESCO Headquarters.  Local involvement will include the officers of the UNESCO Hong Kong Association.

The event was followed by a Lecture & Community Dialogue on Sustainability and Education for All: Partnership for Service in the Global Village.

IIEP has been very pleased to retain strong links with Mr Bray since his return to Hong Kong in 2010, and is delighted that this UNESCO Chair provides a framework for ongoing ties within the UNESCO family.
