About the publication

The IIEP has produced this study on secondary education in OECD countries, in order to inform countries with less-developed economies of current trends and practices. The provision of compulsory and good quality secondary education to youths is a priority in many countries, not least in African countries, in order to drive economic growth. The book, produced originally for the World Bank Africa Division, covers many factors, such as curriculum, teaching and assessment methods, financing and use of resources, training of teachers, and governance. It discusses common principles in the organization of education in the countries covered, as well as how they differ. It concludes by examining how they could be a source of inspiration for African countries, with due account taken of the differences in context.
