With the adoption of the Education 2030 framework for action, should we rethink the support to African education systems?
This was the question addressed on 10 October during the roundtable discussions organised by the Pôle de Dakar of the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) of UNESCO.
These roundtables were dedicated to the 2030 Education Framework for Action and gathered participants and representatives from African ministries and technical partners, who exchanged their views on the themes:
1) Framework for Action Education 2030 and needs analysis, planning and implementation of educational policies;
2) Framework for Action Education 2030 and capacity building for African officials in charge of education policy.
At the end of 2015, the international community adopted a new global program to eradicate poverty and ensure prosperity for all: the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
Among the 17 universal goals of the Agenda, one relates primarily to education. It is the Sustainable Development Goal 4: “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
In order to achieve this goal, the global educational community, convened by UNESCO in Paris in November 2015, established a new roadmap called the Framework for Action Education in 2030.
Capacity building is a key aspect to reaching the 2030 commitments. IIEP Pôle de Dakar was therefore pleased to launch the 10th edition of its training in Sectorial analysis and management of education systems (PSGSE) during the roundtables. Since its creation10 years ago, PSGSE has trained more than 320 executives from 22 countries in Africa.
