Research on higher education and the world of work: what evidence for what educational policies?
Speaker: Professor Ulrich Teichler, former Director of the International Centre
for Higher Education Research (INCHER), University of Kassel, Germany
Moderator: Michaela Martin, IIEP Programme Specialist
This debate will critically examine the major assumptions on the relationship between higher education and the world of work that have shaped past educational policies. The debate will also analyse more recent and nuanced approaches which focus on curricula and competencies, as well as on guidance, job seeking, and graduate placement. The empirical evidence collected from tracer surveys will then be discussed as a major tool for examining the complex relationship that exists between higher education and the world of work. This debate will conclude with a reflection on how research-generated evidence can be used to improve educational policies.
