Natural hazards and conflicts can devastate education systems. When faced with multiple risks – such as insecurity and severe weather – the stakes are even higher. Today, many governments, humanitarian, and development partners recognize the need to use evidence-informed risk reduction strategies to address threats head on, to prepare, and secure the right to quality education for all. Yet this requires reliable data – and especially for forcibly displaced persons, who are among the most marginalized in the world.

Faced with this momentous challenge, IIEP-UNESCO is launching a new online Specialized Course, Using data and information for crisis-sensitive educational planning, in collaboration with NORRAG. During eight weeks, participants will gain the technical skills to use data – from gathering, processing, to analyzing – for planning education in crisis contexts. The course will run from 3 May to 25 June, with a preliminary 10 day phase beginning on 21 April to be acquainted with the virtual platform. The development of this course was made possible thanks to generous financial contributions by the European Union’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (EU-FPI).’

Apply by 5 March

“Strengthening the resilience of education systems is not only about the crises of today. This is a long-term investment, and initiatives put in place today contribute to longer-term improvements and support prevention of future crises.”

Jean Claude Ndabananiye, IIEP course instructor

Education sector project design

Apply by 6 August

National education sector development plans are generally guided by national priorities and by commitments for implementing SDG 4. The strategic priorities and policies captured in plans are delivered in the form of large programmes or projects with multiple sources and modalities of financing. Whether you work in a ministry of education, with a civil society organization, or a development agency, being able to design such programmes or projects is an instrumental skill.

In this course, the primary aim is to teach education development professionals how to design and present a compelling education project proposal. Participants will be able to analyze the international aid environment, design a project document, and use current approaches for project preparation and monitoring and evaluation, among other skills and competencies.

Course dates: 4 October to 26 November 2021 with a preliminary phase beginning on 22 September to be acquainted with the platform.
