Training: How to become an Educational Planning Specialist

03 November 2016

The UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) is pleased to announce that registration is open for the 2017-2018 training sessions in educational planning and management.

IIEP’s training programmes are designed to strengthen skills and competencies in education policy analysis, sector diagnosis, plan formulation and implementation, and monitoring and evaluation, while also developing strategic management and leadership skills. Course content responds directly to the changing needs of education systems, as reflected in the new global Education 2030 agenda.

IIEP offers two unique training programmes that combine online courses and face-to-face interaction. The Education Sector Planning (ESP) course is 6 months, and the Advanced Training Programme (ATP) is a year. The ESP programme can be done as a stand-alone course. The ATP programme offers a more comprehensive training, and includes the ESP course, other specialization courses and a professional project.

Education Sector Planning (ESP)

Applications are now available for IIEP’s Education Sector Planning (ESP) course, which provides participants with the fundamentals of educational planning.

Offered as a shorter, stand-alone course, the ESP combines 12 weeks of online learning with a 13-week residential training phase in Paris. The programme covers the essentials of planning, from education sector diagnosis to the preparation and monitoring of the implementation of an education sector plan.

Advanced Training Programme (ATP)

Applications are also available for the 53rd session of the Advanced Training Programme (ATP) in educational planning and management.

Intensive and practice-orientated, this one-year course develops the professional expertise and leadership skills of civil servants and other education actors. It prepares them for careers in the highest ranks of educational administration. Successful course completion leads to a professional Master’s-level certificate. Beginning in September 2017, it includes six months online in the participant’s home country and a six-month residential phase in Paris, France at IIEP’s headquarters.

 A modularized approach

Trainees who complete the ESP course are also welcome to continue the full ATP programme at a later point and receive the full ATP certificate. This modularized approach can better suit some applicants who are unable to commit right away to a longer stay in Paris.
