The UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) in partnership with UNESCO Myanmar and the Myanmar Ministry of Education (MoE) has launched a training programme in educational planning and management for some 60 Myanmar MoE officials that undertake core planning functions at central and decentralized levels.
The training programme will be implemented in Nay Pyi Taw between March and November 2017. Participants will receive an introduction to educational planning and statistics, as well as introductions to four topics:
- Education sector analysis;
- Choice of strategies;
- Project management; and
- Linking planning and budgets.
Based on their profile and needs, they will then receive a more specialized training on one of these topics.
The programme started with a policy seminar for 35 MoE Director Generals, Deputy Director Generals, and Heads of Regional and State Education Offices. It took place on 21-22 March 2017 at the MoE in in Nay Pyi Taw.
Subsequently, 14 assistant facilitators from the MoE DERPT (Department of Research, Planning and Training) and DBE (Department of Basic Education), and one Head of the Nay Pyi Taw Regional Education Office participated in a training of trainers session on 23-24 March. These assistant facilitators will play a key role in supporting the learning of the 60 MoE officials.
The next training sessions will take place late May/early June.
Myanmar recently launched its first National Education Strategic Plan (NESP 2016-2021), building on a Comprehensive Education Sector Review (CESR) that lasted three and a half years. The NESP will be used as a reference material throughout the course.
The training programme is funded by the UNESCO CapED programme.
