13 November 2017 to 26 January 2018
Application deadline:
3 July 2017

Part 1: 13 November to 15 December 2017
Part 2: 8 to 26 January 2018

In recent decades, the indicator systems are at the heart of all national and international agendas, to describe the functioning of education systems and monitor the achievement of development targets formulated in the national development plans.

As part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), countries have officially expressed ambitious goals such as learning outcomes for employment and everyday life, or establishment of an equitable and inclusive educational system. A total of 43 indicators on education have been proposed, and the countries committed themselves to begin to use some in 2017, to monitor the achievement of the ODD.

Within the above context, a certain number of key questions emerge. Three of these relate to the choice, analysis, communication and use of information:

  • How to identify appropriate information?
  • How can the analysis of indicators, on the functioning of the system, its trends and disparities, be improved?
  • How to improve the presentation or communication of statistical information, so that information can better guide decision-making?

Such questions will be tackled during the online course.

The purpose of this online course is to strengthen national capacity of Ministries of Education, and in particular, to transfer to educational planners and managers, the knowledge and skills required in developing and using an efficient indicators system for planning and monitoring the educational system.

More specifically, at the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Explain the importance of indicators in monitoring the SDG4;
  • Develop an indicator system to monitor strategic policy objectives;
  • Use appropriate techniques for a relevant and concise analysis of these indicators;
  • Apply communication techniques to facilitate the use of this information by the decision-makers.

You will also produce at the end of this course, a brief document, containing a presentation and an analysis of core indicators related to the national education policies in your country.
