IIEP Director to participate in CIES Keynote Event on stage where UN charter was signed in 1945

IIEP’s Director Suzanne Grant Lewis will participate in a plenary panel on 15 April 2019 as part of the inauguration of the 63rd Comparative International Education Society (CIES) conference to be held in San Francisco from 14-18 April 2019. The event will also feature the keynote George Kneller Lecture by Professor Jeffrey Sachs.

With support from the Open Society Foundations, the keynote event will take place at the Herbst Theater, the historic site of the United Nations Charter signing in 1945.

IIEP’s Director will be part of a panel of current and former UNESCO leaders in education on the role of the organization in the era of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The panel will discuss how UNESCO is upholding human rights, as well as how it is contributing to the ambitious 2030 agenda amid new global challenges and questions around the benefits of multilateralism.

The panel will also feature Aaron Benavot, a past Director of the UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report and a Professor of Global Education Policy at the University of Albany-SUNY, Jordan Naidoo, Director of UNESCO’s Division for Education 2030 Support and Coordination, and Claudia Uribe, Director of the Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean.
