In September 2015, the Agenda 2030 was adopted by the education community, framing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDG recognizes the linkage between education and gender equality, as seen in the education targets.

To monitor the progress on SDGs, governments are required to not only produce evidence on gender equality in education, but also to carry out interventions to ensure gender equality in participation, learning outcomes, and empowerment throughout life.
