Forest Whitaker, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Peace and Reconciliation and a co-founder of the International Institute for Peace, has sent an inspirational message to youth everywhere, encouraging them to participate in creating social change and making a better future for all.
In his video address, launched on www.planwithyouth.org on 17 August, the Oscar-winning actor and peace activist urges youth to take an active part in the online discussions leading up to IIEP’s 2012 Policy Forum on 'Engaging Youth in Planning Education for Social Transformation', which will be held in Paris on 16–18 October. This virtual, pre-forum dialogue is so important because it will shape the discussions at the event, ensuring that voices of youth are included in the Policy Forum's Agenda for Action.
“It’s time to foster young voices. Collaborate with young voices and draw wisdom from them”, Mr Whitaker says in the video. “Together we can plan relevant educational policies and initiatives that nurture peace, promote civic engagement, and generate positive employment prospects for the generations to come.”
Forest Whitaker will also be supporting this important dialogue by giving a keynote video speech at the Policy Forum in October.
Be inspired by his message and join the debate by giving your opinions on how to engage youth in planning education for social transformation.
