IIEP had the honour to welcome the
President of Zanzibar
on Wednesday 21 October 2009
During this important visit, the history of the Institute and it’s activities were presented to the His Excellency Mr Amani Abeid Karume, President of Zanzibar, and Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania, by the Mr. Mark Bray, IIEP Director. The President was briefed on IIEP's work in capacity development, including the number of trainees from Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania, who had followed the IIEP Advanced training programme (ATP).
The work of the Southern and Eastern Africa Consortium for Monitoring Educational Quality (SACMEQ) was also presented to the President by the Acting Director of SACMEQ, Demus Makuwa, with some highlights from the latest SACMEQ III Project results. While these results were still confidential, permission to present them was granted by the Hon. Mr. Haroun Ali Suleiman, Minister of Education and Vocational Training (to the right of the President in the above photo), in his capacity as President of the SACMEQ Assembly of Ministers, which took place at the IIEP on 4 October 2009.
The President of Zanzibar remarked on the quality of IIEP work, noting the prominent leadership positions occupied by the ATP graduates. He also expressed appreciation of IIEP’s support to SACMEQ and the Institute’s research and technical assistance.
