Margherita Boccalatte is a member of the Gender at the Centre Initiative of the IIEP technical team, and Associate Specialist for gender sensitive education planning.

Margherita is of Italian origin with international experience in gender equality and mainstreaming. Prior to joining IIEP, she worked for the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Mozambique as Special Assistant to the Resident Coordinator. In Mozambique, she managed - among others - the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse portfolio. Between 2017 and 2019 she worked for UNDP Tunisia Country Office as gender analyst. Before entering the UN, she worked as a research intern for the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and was the Liaison Officer for WeCare, an NGO working to bridge gaps between ethnicities in Hong Kong, focusing on domestic workers rights. Margherita holds a Bachelor Degree in International Relations from the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and a Master’s Degree in China Development Studies from the University of Hong Kong.
