How to address the learning crisis in Latin America and the Caribbean

14 September 2022

The Regional Forum on Education Policy 2022 will take place on 4–6 October, to foster dialogue that seeks to strengthen the capacities of UNESCO Member States and help promote the Education 2030 Agenda.

The Regional Forum on Education Policy is an annual event that provides a space for dialogue, consultation, and reflection among education policy-makers and other key stakeholders in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The 2022 edition of the Regional Forum will be held virtually and will be jointly organized by the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP-UNESCO) and the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago).

This high-level event will be attended by education policy-makers from Latin America and the Caribbean; education policy experts from UNESCO and other sub-regional, regional, and international organizations; representatives of education systems, and experts from civil society organizations.

Focusing on both the policy implications of and implementation strategies for achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 of the Education 2030 Agenda, this year's Regional Forum will focus on how to address the learning crisis and advance towards the recovery and transformation of education in the region. Given the complex challenges the countries in Latin America and the Caribbean face in addressing this learning crisis, UNESCO, through its co-organizing offices, seeks to provide a platform to enrich this debate and thus make progress in ensuring inclusive quality education for all.

Furthermore, this edition will be the first opportunity for the region to follow up on the conclusions reached at the Transforming Education Summit, which will be held in New York on 16–19 September, and kick-start the adaptation of these findings for the region.

The live broadcast of the event’s opening session and panels, together with other resources, will be available on the Forum's website. Anyone interested in accessing these resources will need to register in advance and log in with their details.
