How do governments, development and humanitarian partners plan education with and for refugees and internally displaced persons? What are the political, financial and technical challenges? Are there strategies to ensure forcibly displaced persons continue education?

To help answer these questions and gather experiences from around the world, an e-Forum will be held this October on IIEP-UNESCO’s e-Learning platform.

Over two weeks, discussions (in English) will follow dedicated themes with supplementary reading materials, country examples and guiding questions. Participants will also be able to share their resources and relevant documents and network with other professionals. The e-Forum is organized in collaboration with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and Education Above All (EAA) through its Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict Programme (PEIC).

Leaving no one behind

Even during times of conflict or other crises, no one should be denied their right to a quality education. It should be a priority from the onset of an emergency and be integrated into long-term development. However, all too often the educational needs of children and youth forced to flee their homes are neglected.
Educational planning can help governments and partners protect this right. This is especially urgent as the world is facing the largest crisis of forcibly displaced persons since the end of the Second World War. Globally, one in every 113 people is now either an asylum-seeker, internally displaced or a refugee. At the end of 2015, 65.3 million people, over half under the age of 18, had been driven from their homes, either as refugees or internally displaced persons.

Who can register?

The e-Forum is intended to bring together ministry of education officials, humanitarian and development partners, and refugees and internally displaced persons that are or have been involved in educational policy development and planning. Registration is free.
