The new Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to UNESCO visits IIEP
As part of the increased collaboration between his government and IIEP, His Excellency Mr. Lee Sang Jin, Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, visited IIEP on 7 February. With Khalil Mahshi, Director of IIEP, he discussed steps to strengthen this collaboration within IIEP’s next Medium-Term Strategy (2014-2021). The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Jiwan Yoo, First Secretary at the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Korea.

During his visit, Ambassador Lee also met with the trainees of the IIEP Advanced Training Programme (ATP).

The Republic of Korea has supported IIEP’s training courses over the recent past by hosting, for two consecutive years (2010 and 2011), the ATP’s international study visit. This provided ATP trainees with the unique opportunity to learn about one of the world’s most astonishing successes in the development of education systems.

The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the recent appointment to IIEP’s Governing Board of Ms Hyun-Sook Yu from the Future and Higher Education Research Division at the Korean Educational Development Institute (KEDI). KEDI is a leading institution in educational policy research and planning, guiding the national agenda in formulating a unique education system contributing to Korea’s dynamic growth.
