Based on a random sample survey of 501 employees in 9 Indian companies in both the private and public sectors, the paper tries answer two specific questions: how appropriate, relevant and useful is non-formal education to job performance? What kinds of national incentives are available to make non-formal education attractive to its potential consumers? The findings seem to suggest that training (whether probationary, in-company or external) is perceived as useful in terms of overall performance
