The IIEP Virtual Campus organizes several types of online training:

  • an annual programme of online courses, each eight weeks long, accessible via application or by invitation;
  • MOOC (massive open online courses), delivered over several weeks, accessible to all, free of charge;
  • Free, online self-learning modules, for training at your own pace.

All these online training courses are intended primarily for professionals in institutions that play a key role in the planning and management of education systems: ministries of education, universities and other public bodies. Our courses are based on the latest research in the field of education. They adopt a practical approach, based on developing skills that are directly applicable in the professional environment.

Technology and accessibility

IIEP’s online courses and MOOCs are organized on the online learning platform Moodle. This secure tool enables trainees to take part in virtual classes from a computer with an Internet connection, or from a mobile device (smartphone or tablet). The technology is easy to use and adapted to participants’ needs.

Check the minimum configuration required to access the platform

Designed to encourage interaction with the training team and other people registered in the course, this platform offers discussion forums, wikis, and more. It also provides access to a wide variety of modules, as well as training and evaluation resources and tools (videos and audio teaching presentations, web conferences, blogs, quizzes, etc).

In the inclusive approach valued by IIEP, distance courses should be accessible to all. We make every effort to ensure the accessibility of all the learning resources and support tools intended for trainees.  Among other functions, the online platform allows for the modification of the size of the text and range of colours; it provides identical content in different formats. Videos are transcribed and subtitled, and the answers to quizzes have no time limit.

Organization of online courses

Delivered long distance via the Virtual Campus, IIEP’s online courses usually take place over an eight week period. They are preceded by a preparatory phase of around ten days, which enables trainees to meet virtually and familiarize themselves with the online learning platform.

The courses are based on training modules that are accessible online at all times, and completed with communal working sessions and webinars organized through videoconference. Each training course combines individual work and group work, with constant links to IIEP’s training team and other participants from different countries. The workload is estimated at between six and eight hours a week.

IIEP offers a high quality learning environment. People who follow the online courses have access to the electronic resources in IIEP’s library, as well as to the Institute’s various thematic portals.

In-person working sessions, organized locally, may be offered occasionally, depending on the needs and the health context.

Evaluation and certification

Each participant is evaluated individually, on the basis of activities carried out throughout the training. Group work, prepared collectively in the framework of the course and submitted to the IIEP training team, also counts towards the final evaluation.

An IIEP-UNESCO certificate is handed out at the end of each online course to those who meet all the success criteria.

More broadly, the quality and efficiency of our online training course are evaluated through the Kirkpatrick model.

Applications

The submission of applications and/or registrations for the Virtual Campus training courses are all done exclusively online.
Note that some online courses are only accessible by invitation from IIEP.

As the number of places is limited, ministerial entities and national institutions are given priority for registration. They are asked to constitute a group of four to six people.

Individual applications are also accepted, although they are limited. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Registration fees

The fee for an online course is USD 750 per person.

Candidates are asked to submit applications for scholarships or financial support to the relevant bodies (employer, ministries, international or non-governmental organizations). These scholarships are usually granted in the framework of programmes for human resources development or strengthening institutional capacity.

IIEP-UNESCO cannot offer financial assistance to trainees.

MOOCs and some online training courses offered by IIEP are accessible free of charge.

MOOCs: our free educational resources

In parallel with its annual programme of online courses, IIEP offers massive open online courses (MOOCs).

At the end of these MOOCs, the educational resources provided to trainees remain accessible online:
