Practical information and application

The Seminar will start on 18 March 2024 with a first module that takes place online until 19 April 2024. Participants should spend on average 8–10 hours per week on Seminar-related work during Module 1. Module 2 on the practice of education leadership, will take place in Paris from 22 to 26 April 2024.

Admission to this course is open to all candidates who meet the requirements.

Seminar objectives

At the end of the Seminar, participants should be able to:

  • Examine how leadership contributes to successful policy and plan implementation.
  • Apply leadership skills in the process of designing smart education policies and plans.
  • Engage key stakeholders in the policy and plan preparation process.
  • Identify contextual factors that will lead to the successful implementation of education reform.
  • Design and lead implementation strategies to enable transformation.

Structure

Module 1 (online): Introduction to Educational Planning and Effective Leadership (predominately self-paced). Module 1 will introduce participants to the working methodology of the Seminar.

Module 2 (face-to-face): The Practice of Education Leadership. Each day will focus on a different dimension of leadership in the design, stakeholder engagement, context, and implementation of education policies and plans.

Pre-requisites

All candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Professional experience: a minimum of five years of current or recent work experience in the field of education (professionals with current work experience will be given priority access).
  • Leadership experience: have recently participated or will, in the near future, participate in the design and implementation of an education policy or plan.
  • Language proficiency: have a good capacity to communicate (read, write, and speak) in English.
  • Funding: The candidates’ applications must specify how travel and accommodation costs will be met.

Participants' profiles

This Seminar is designed for high-level education policy-makers and planners responsible for the design, management, and implementation of education policies in UNESCO Member States. Participation is open to individual professionals or teams of two to four professionals.

Technology

The first module of the Seminar will be held online in a virtual classroom. Our e-learning platform (Moodle) is user-friendly and adapted to participants’ needs, allowing practice-oriented training and a collaborative learning approach. Teaching-learning activities span a variety of interactive modules, resources, and tools, including discussion forums, video and audio instructional content, web conferencing, wikis, blogs, quizzes, and more.

The second module of the Seminar will take place in Paris, France.
